Healthy, Hip and a Hit with Kids:
Upstart Kids' Entertainment Company Releases Unique Kids' Videos
August, 2005
Washington, DC - Hip, healthy and fun are the words that leap to mind when watching the premiere series from upstart kids' entertainment company, Big Bright World. The company was founded on the unique and winning philosophy that kids' entertainment should have the nutritional value of spinach, but the kid-appeal of Pop Rocks!
Co-founders Ashley O'Connor and Lisa Senecal set out in January 2005 to create a new type of young children's live-action entertainment and build a company to introduce families to organizations committed to making a positive impact upon those families' lives. Their premiere partnership with NOLS, the National Outdoor Leadership School, has transformed that goal into an accomplishment. With three titles in the AdventurePatrol series, this is just the beginning for Big Bright World.
Geared to kids four to eight years old, AdventurePatrol takes children on weekend-long outdoor adventures into some of the Nation's most amazing wilderness playgrounds. The Red Rocks of Moab, Utah, the mighty Colorado River and the winter wilds of the Absorka Mountains in Wyoming are the natural sets for this series of entertainment that blurs the line between elementary school-aged educational entertainment and an extreme sports film.
A rocking soundtrack and fast-paced visuals are coupled with positive messages for kids from the series' host: a hip, early 20-something named Zeke. Perseverance, positive self-image, healthy diet, exercise and rest, environmental stewardship, sports safety and the value of learning new skills are all themes running throughout the 30-minute titles.
“There's a void in children's entertainment,” says Senecal, Director, Writer and mom to four and seven year-old boys who appear in the titles, “Entertainment for young kids can be educational, give strong positive messages, encourage kids to be healthy and active and still be cool. We want to partner with companies and organizations that feel the same commitment to that mission as we do. We couldn't have found a better first partner than NOLS.”
“When Big Bright World contacted us about partnering on this project it was one of those light bulb over your head sort of moments,” says Bruce Palmer, Marketing Director at NOLS, “Building a relationship with children at an early age and with their families has an obvious value, but doing it through fun, educational entertainment just wasn't on our radar screen before now.”
A combination of extreme sports footage and segments featuring the video's host being introduced to these skills, show kids the fun of learning new things and how, with hard work, they can improve at whatever they set their minds to. “The character of Zeke has this wonderful ability to be someone kids admire, even when they see him struggling to learn a new sport,” says O'Connor, Director and Producer on the project, “We thought it was important for kids to see that even cool guys start out making mistakes, but they keep trying. It's something kids can relate to whether it's sports, school, art, learning an instrument...whatever their interests may be.”
“At a time when the issue of childhood obesity is in the newspaper every day,” Senecal said, “Big Bright World has created entertainment that encourages a healthy active family lifestyle that the entire family will enjoy watching and kids will ask to see again and again.”
